Our world is just full of 'em crazies...
'inconsequential creations of irrational minds' + Cross your fingers to make wish. Bad luck is trapped at the point where the two fingers meet so when we cross our fingers, we stop the bad luck from escaping and allow our wishes to come true.
+ When a suspected witch crossed your path, you could make a cross shortcut by crossing your index and second finger or the index fingers of both hands. This would provide protection and ward off the evil influence. Just like in Dracula movies, it was believed the power of the cross or any religious talisman would combat the forces of darkness.
I personally don't see how placing your middle finger over your index finger can have the desirable effect of warding off evil to keep them from ruining our good fortunes or keeping good luck entrapped for later use?
Do you think this truly works?
A superstition like "keeping your finger crossed" actually resulting in good fortune?!?

I really dont believe it will bring good luck... But then find myself doing this strange little ritual before a rather nerve wrecking situation! Weird isn't it??

ReplyDeleteNot sure if it fits on your blog about crossing of fingers, but in Dutch we have basically the same saying, but we don't cross our fingers, we twiddle our thumbs for someone. (Weirdly enough, never for yourself) In Dutch the saying is "Ik zal voor je duimen" or "I will twiddle my thumbs for you"
